Brendon Sole: I first discovered hot glass while attending a bachelor of fine arts degree in Wanganui in 2002. I was so taken with the medium, its immediacy of creation and its almost limitless design potential that I elected to study glass full time.
3 years later I graduated with a glass diploma specializing in hot glass processes and off-hand glass blowing techniques. My body of work was already reflecting my own unique perspectives on studio glass in a New Zealand setting.
In early 2006 I was offered the position of assistant at the Chronicle glass blowing studio. In this role as assistant I work with the studio owners Katie Brown and Lyndsay Patterson in the creation of their many and greatly varied glass works.
My own work revolves around patterns and motifs present in nature in New Zealand. Paua patterns, flowing wave forms, clear starry night skies and bark textures are but a few of the things that inspire my work.
Donna Sole: I came across bead making in 2003 when I attended a demo/lesson. I caught on very quickly, and was soon hooked. Now at my home studio,I have a mix oxygen/propane torch/burner.I use mostly Italian glass (effetry/moretti) and some NZ glass (gaffer).
I love creating intricate original Ladybug beads, minature flower gardens, romanesque vase beads and hollow beads. some of these beads take up to 45 minutes to create.
I placed 2nd in the 2007 NZ glass bead competition (theme= All things NZ) for "Ladybug on Clematis and Fern" bead. And in 2008 I gained 2 Hightly commended entries (theme= Acient Aotearoa)for "Amber Fossil" bead and "Fantail in Bush" bead.
I make no two peices the same, but i will add earings, bracelet to make sets on request.
I love making beads, and bet you will too, I can teach private lessons from my home studio and we are in the process of setting up a studio/home buisness for bead classes for up to 4 people. If you are interested, please contact me at donna@soleglass.co.nz
